Re: Private Peter Wilson WW1- 2nd Bn Royal Scots Fusiliers

Makalalee,

I've been off the forum for a while - sorry for my tardy response!

My dad was Alistair Roxburgh. His mate, Peter Wilson, was a rellie (uncle, I think) of the Macaulay family.

All the best,

Re: Private Peter Wilson WW1- 2nd Bn Royal Scots Fusiliers

I suspect that this is pure coincidence, but I'm from Broxburn and my Dad used to drink with a Peter Wilson. This Peter must have been born c 1930, though. A cousin, perhaps?

Re: Private Peter Wilson WW1- 2nd Bn Royal Scots Fusiliers

I've yet to find anything regarding 2 RSF on 12 Oct 16 - they were part of 90th Brigade, which was part of 30th Division. However, below is a link to a Bedfordshire Regiment website. It has the Operations Order for 89th Brigade - part of 30th Division and 'next' to 90th Brigade. It gives some indica...

Re: Private Peter Wilson WW1- 2nd Bn Royal Scots Fusiliers

Hi Makalalee, 54 men of the 2nd Battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers died on 12 Oct 1916. Most are commemorated on Pier and Face 3C of the Thiepval Memorial; 13 men are interred in CWGC cemeteries. I am also looking up Ancestry to see if I can find anything - no joy as yet. Glad you liked the photos, Ann...

Re: John Morrison ROONEY 10th BN. Cameronian (Scottish Riffles)

Gary,

From SDGW,

41571 Pte J Rooney enlisted in Glasgow. His place of birth is not listed. He died, on 25 Jun 1917, of wounds inflicted in France and Flanders.

Roxy

PS. I'm not sure why Stewie thinks 10 SR was an odd unit, by the way.

Re: John Morrison ROONEY 10th BN. Cameronian (Scottish Riffles)

Gary, My ggf was also in 10th Scottish Rifles (Cameronians) - he was killed at Loos in 1915. I have the particular volume of Soldiers Died in the Great War - I'll look him up and post any information. Incidentally, I cannot recommend the Great War Forum enough; they will provide anything you require...
