All you need to do is find a kind hearted U.K. Further or Higher Education person who will do a lookup. Currently available free to them but not available at all to anyone else at this point of time.
Now if you asked 6 months ago I could have tried. :( I might yet be able to whenever my new student card arrives. :D

Hi all
Not sure if the newspapers referred to are available quite yet:
http://www.ancestry.co.uk/learn/learnin ... fault.aspx
  • Objective 2007
This newspaper digitisation project will offer users in UK Higher Education (HE) and Further Education (FE) colleges:
Free access to a virtual library of nationally, regionally and locally important digitised British newspapers from 1800 to 1900.
The ability to search across the different newspaper titles to draw together materials relating to a wide range of research and learning topics.
    Objective 2008
To digitise 3,000,000 pages of British newspapers and to offer worldwide access to that collection via a sophisticated searching and browsing interface on the web.

Only HE and FE institutions will be able to access this unique resource. You will soon be able to obtain a licence agreement for 19th Century British Library Newspapers. Please send your details to britishlibrarynewspapers@bl.uk and we will let you know when the licence is available.
I've had a look and the University Library I use does not seem to have access to it yet - at least I'm not seeing any sign of it in the Library Electornic Resources.

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Everybody!

I think it's wonderful and terriffic that these newspapers are being digitized, BUT why are they only available to colleges? I have a college degree and can read just fine, thank you! And, people like me are a whole lot more likely to willingly use this kind of collection than the average student. At least, from what I remember, when we were students, the last thing we did was sit around appreciating the archives!

Bummer! [rant]

Sorry about the previous rant. Better news this time!

Andy,

I went to the Aberdeen P and J website and registered for their discussion board, then posted a question about the Photo Club. Just checked in and have one reply with a possible lead--someone at one of the museums. I'm going to email this person next.

The P & J discussion board looks to be wide ranging with people interested in sharing their knowledge. I haven't had time to look at everything, but there were several queries about various streets in Aberdeen and replies with pictures of them. If someone can't get to Aberdeen, this might be a good place to look for someone to take a picture for you! :D
