Hi Robert,
I too wish they would put them on the internet.
I know they are supposed to charge for lookups, but when I was home last year, I went up to the cemetery and they did several lookups for me and didn't charge me.
I found the employees there to be very helpful. They even drove me up to one of the sites. When we got there it was all overgrown with bushes and the actual monument had been knocked over. They called in a crew of workers to clean the site up so that I could see the inscriptions on the headstone. They told me they will arrange to have the gravesite repaired.
I'll see if they follow through on the promise when I go home next year.
Regards,
Ina

Hi Ina,
The staff in the office and the groundstaff are very helpful. I have had some information without charge and on several occasions the groundstaff have led us to the locations of lairs. Nothing seems too much trouble for them. In some cases there are no gravestones for my ancestors but they take time to pace out from a known lair number to locate the grave. The man in charge of the office helped me two years ago and said that they were looking into trying to provide the lair information in a more useful way. After all, since they are consulting the old handwritten books, it must be causing wear and tear to them.
Best wishes
Robert

Greenock BMDs
I contacted Greenock to ask when the other names will be done and its looking good below is the reply .....and many thanks to the folk who do the transcriptions
I am glad that you find the BMD index useful.
We are currently continuing to process the entries and transcribe them into computer files for download. I cannot give you a definite date for when the rest of the files will be available but at the current rates I am hopeful that we should have transcribed everything towards the end of this year. We normally post the computer downloads within a day or so after they are received from the transcribers so the main rate determining step is the transcription process itself. Hopefully the whole index will be available by the end of 2008.
