On a slight tangent:

I only found out recently that to be legal, and drive in the UK with a UK licence, I would have to perjure myself and claim to be permanently resident in UK as the address on my current licence is no longer correct and has to be reissued.

The bottom line is that if one moves abroad, one has no right to a UK licence, and would probably have to take a test again if one returned. Presumably this is to prevent people being disqualified and then using a licence issued elsewhere.

I´m quite sure many are unaware of this, and many others disregard it and hope for the best - no prangs or checks.
