Thanks David & Susie.
By GRH do you mean the one at the West End?

Hi Bertha, as far as I know they are only available in General Register House on Princes Street.
Susan.
P.S. David the copies are charged at the normal rate of 2.50 per 5 sheets or part there of i.e. 8 sheets would be 5 pound.

Hi Bertha,

General Register House (GRH) is the one at the very East End of Princes Street - beside the statue of Wellington on his horse that almost blocks the pavement from Princes Street to St James Centre. Or in genealogist's terms, beside New Register House (NRH).

The one at the West End (in Charlotte Square) is West Register House (WRH).

See the map on the NAS website.

All the best,

Andrew

I found this thread very interesting! Through the links you provided I see the will of my Gt grandfather who died in WW1 is listed. Does anyone know how I go about seeing it? Do I have to write to them requesting a hard copy or is there anyway they would send it to me via email?

Kind Regards
Barbara

Barbara,
If you write,phone,e-mail them with the full reference ie;sc70/8/68/890, they all have four reference numbers,I'm sure they will then check the will, see how many pages it contains, then send you an estimate for copies.

Oh dear, there's several there for the Jeffrey surname I'd like to have a look at.
Would cost me a small fortune!!

Hiya,
It only costs when you find the right one, then request a copy, to narrow your search do you know with which regiment the person served with, maybe where they fell in action, a home address?

Hi Susan
Pure speculation I'm afraid, I'm just going by family names.

There are 9 possibles out of the 23 listed (7xWW1 and 2xWW2).
Not sure how many pages that would work out to and whether they would allow copies just on a hunch?
