I just wanted to publically thank Miss Poohs for looking up the records for me. She was able to find both :D .

Mary Carson (who died of strangulation) was noted as dying from suicide by hanging...and at the age of approximately 80, it sounds a bit odd, doesn't it? But that was the finding.

And it WAS my Mary Carson who committed bigamy by marrying Andrew Fleming when she was still married to Charles Edward Kidd (anyone recall reading my posts about that? He just disappeared and Sarah - sorry I can't remember your posting name, but you know who you are... kindly found him for me in America).

So now I am wondering whether Mary and Andrew stayed together anyway, as she called herself Mary Carson or Fleming (no mention of Kidd), widow, on her THIRD marriage to a Robert Menzies. It's like in her own mind she felt the marriage to Charles Kidd didn't count, hehe.

This Mary was a bit of a girl alright!

But thanks again Miss Poohs!

Hi Nina

Your suicide at that age was not too uncommon. We have a 73 year old who still had her Family staying round about her in Paisley who did the same.
there is a form of depression which can occur in older folks and if you have had a hard life I suppose it would be all too easy to give in particularly if you have nothing to look forward to.
We have pensions and perks of various sorts. they had nothing like that and no high interest investments to make life comfortable.

You're very welcome Nina.

I was really surprised at the suicide verdict, but as Russell says things were different then.

Without getting too personal though, her age makes you wonder about the mechanics of it all - I mean 80 yrs old!!!

The bigamy situation was really interesting too - glad I was able to help.

Update on this item, re the bigamy. I looked up Andrew Fleming's death in 1922 and it says he was single. No sign of Mary anywhere on it. So I guess they may not have stayed together, although Mary dd not marry her third husband until 1927. Oh well...

The first is a very curious death for Mary Carson, married to John Carson, died July 17 1911 in Irvine, Ayr. The RCE is noted as "Result of precognition, RCE Vol. 3, p 214, dated August 2nd 1911". She died of strangulation suddenly. Very curious! I can't find a reference to the precognition at NAS.

You wont find an NAS reference as these PF records in general haven't survived.

See your email.
