I find RC very helpful for tracing English/Welsh family. I just received a series of pictures taken for me by a wonderful person in Dorset of where my family used to live. When you live across the world, rather tricky to get such photographs for yourself. Access to parish records from England is also not easy from a distance - if not held by the LDS. They do not have a one stop online shop as in Scotland. I can usually find links - or a very helpful person via RootsChat.

I have also received much help from folks here & where possible I attempt to return the assistance with any information I can supply from Australia.

I use rootschat - mainly for English family lines I'm tracing.

Both are wonderful sites.

Donna
Looking for Dickson, Reid, McGill lines in Scotland. Ord and Potter lines in England.

I love TS but find the Rootschat easier to follow with it sorted by counties. It is eaesier for me to sort the "wheat" fromthe Chaff"

Rootschat is very good for photos. There are some wonderful people doing amazing things with old Photos.

I use Rootschat daily. I have found the other chatters to be very helpful, particularly with my English and Welsh rellies. However, if its Scots I want I come here.
Surname interest: McKenzie, Ballantyne in Lanarkshire. Wh(y)ite in Blantyre. McPherson. McNaught.

I had some wonderful help from a Gentleman on Rootschat re my Convict. I find both sites very helpful and lovely friendly people.

I post at Rootschat using the same name, but mostly in the photos section in the past six months or so. I have had at least two significant contacts made through Rootschat so I am well pleased with it . On the whole I find other posters friendly and helpful as well as knowledgeable. But as others have said...if you want Scottish stuff...HERE is the place to be! 8)
