Hi all
I got my first RCE yesterday for my gggrandmother Mary Downie (Davidson/McLean) who drowned in the Monkland canal in 1908.
It didnt tell me anything more than what was on her DC, but nice to see it anyway
Now if only I had taken notes of any others that have RCE's
But then this is the same numptie who didn't bother to enter source details in his family history programme when he first started using the programme
, and now finds it will take a long time to catch up on all my lang deid yins

I have a divorce in the family (1888) and have seen all the relevant papers at the NAS, however I was not expecting the RCE button to pop up when I reviewed the page on the SP site, but there it was. I had a look and can say that the info would have been useful if I hadn't already been to the NAS/looked through the British Newspaper Archive in Colindale. Still nice to have seen though.fmackay wrote:I have just viewed two of the corrected entries which I had submitted and I'm sure there will be a few more to view.
What's the situation if it's a divorce? I have one but it doesn't give an option to view - is that something completely different? What would the entry tell me if I was able to access it?
On another note, I had a look at an RCE for a death in 1916 and discovered the first suicide in the family. It says "fracture of the skull by an explosive (suicide)". Could the explosive in question be that fired from a weapon of some sort?
back to the newspaper archives.....
Cheers,
Scott

Hi Jean,JustJean wrote:Hi Caroline
Sorry to hear this but it's likely your RCE has been mis-indexed. It's possible as some in my testing phase were not found that should have been there. Please notify GROS via a contact form of the specific record and request a copy of the RCE you are seeking. It may be a while I would imagine before the proper corrections can be made in the online database.
Also please let us know how you get on with this or if there is anything else that seems to come up missing!
Just to let you know that I got a reply from SP this morning to say that they couldn't read the date of the divorce on the marriage certificate, so that's why it hadn't been indexed. They will try to locate it, but it might take some time!

Hi,
On the dc for my GGF there's an RCE for him and the fellow listed after him; however, the only RCE that appears is the 2nd chap.

Sounds like an indexing/scanning problem I would send a contact e-mail to SP & let them sort you out.
Check in case it says something like next page free or something?(just a fleeting thought)

Hi Joette,
Thank you for the reply. I've sent off a contact. I had another one with 2 deaths on the same sheet but I was able to access both RCEs.

Hi
I had two possible RCE's that had no red button to view them. One was on my Grandmother's first marriage cert and had the oval stamp which has been mentioned previously. The other was for another marriage in 1872.
I submitted a contact form a couple of nights ago, but didn't receive an e-mail to acknowlegde my query. I put this down to SP being busy with similar queries.
Tonight, I received an e-mail apologising for the broken link on my Grandmother's marriage record and a copy of the RCE was attached!
I was asked for more info on the second marriage, so hopefully will get a reply on that one in due course?
I must say a big thanks to SP for the prompt reply and the RCE =D> . It must be an absolute nightmare for them just now!
Anyway, I only had 5 possible RCE's and already have 4 of them with a possible 5th on the way

I also have two certs with the RCE stamp in the margin. Neither have the red button for me to press to check them out.
1872 SRI Birth GIFFORD,MARY ANN (Statutory Births 164/00 0091)
1875 SRI Birth GIFFORD,MARY ANN (Statutory Births 164/00 0240)
I have sent a contact form to GROS - nothing back from them yet though.
SP got back to me and sent me both extracts in an e-mail.
Cheers, Carole.
