My renewal isnt due until August, but like all of you I am tired of getting 5 pages of hotmatches to people in locations that arent even remotely connected to my lot, although some are at least in the same country

It does sound like they are trying to cash in on the popularity of genealogy, which I feel will be to their detriment. What they have to remember and get into their thick skulls. Is that it is OUR information they are using to make money from.

Recently I have had no more real connections with my lot, and some I do have dont seem interested in keeping contact.

Well done Tracey

I suppose I should do likewise and remove my tree - it's pretty well incomplete and inaccurate anyway - I have learned a lot since my first tentative efforts on GenesRe.

Serious researchers will find TS anyway - and then they stop being serious and have Hallowe'en parties and all sorts of nonsense yet still manage to find those ancestors :!:

Note the reference to "auto-renewal", otherwise known as "continuous membership". If you made the mistake of ticking this box when you joined in the first place, like I did, they will renew your membership automatically, whether you want it or not. Admittedly this is only 9.95 for the year, but I hadn't realised what I'd done until it was too late!

"Automatic Renewal" is the only option Ancestry gives you and they don't bother to tell you when they are about to charge you. And it's quite a bit more than 9.95 for the year.

Don't get me started.... [rant]

I let mine lapse a while ago mainly because of the price rise. I received an email the other day offering 6 months for £7.50 but I still don't think it's worth it.

The few positive matches I've had led to me giving a lot more than I got. :(

I've taken 2 renewals at £10 for the year in the past which I thought was pushing it but since it moved to £10 for 6 months i haven't bothered and never will. What's on offer does not justify the subscrition in my own opinion. I'd rather use that money on SP.

After five years membership with only two years subscription the last taken out last year. I received an email stating my renewal date was due and it would be £9.95. I never followed it up as I found it to be poor value for money and their "Hot Matches" a joke.
To my surprise I received an email telling me that they had deducted £9.95 from my account?????.
When I queried this they stated that it was because I had ticked the "Automatic" renewal box. I send them a reply stating that I hadn't. The reply I got back was that they had unticked my "Automatic" box and refunded the money into my account (still to be confirmed).
Although not 100% certain that I did not tick the automatic box by mistake the fact they they were able to adjust my "personal" information led me to close down my membership immediately.

I'd get in touch with them about not having been notified. I certainly got an email well in advance, giving me time to weigh up whether to keep it going or cancel it.

I use it a lot, so simply let it run.

I was also contacted in advance by Ancestry, both by email and telephone...
