Many thanks Jean.

I'm finding it a bit confusing - the children from the different generations named much the same - checking and double checking dates - boy it ain't easy some times.

Nope it ain't never easy...just some days are less hard than others

Take your time....afterall it took these ancestors of ours hundreds of years to to become so well hidden! Can't find them in a blink of an eye!

Best wishes

Just wish they were a bit more inventive when it came to naming the children LOL

Post by Wanda Stevenson » Wed Feb 21, 2007 7:23 pm

Was reading the posts and saw this term mentioned. I am also stuck and am wondering if maybe this might help me out. Can someone please tell me what this term means, and where I can find it? I know I am grasping at straws..............

Hi Wanda

If you are referring to "IGI" then that is an abbreviation (well known and well loved) for International Genealogical Index. Which is one of the major jumping off points for doing research anywhere. It's found at www.familysearch.com and it contains a mixture of extracted and submitted entries for births and marriages up to about 1875. The Latter Day Saints Church (Mormon) created it. It's free! I'm sure if you did a search on this website or simply just did a google search on 'IGI" or "International Genealogical Index" you'd be overwelmed with information all about it.

Hi Namesake!

Was just about to reply in a similar vein when I noticed that Wanda is referring to BIVRI.

Over to you again, as I know you can explain it a whole lot easier than I can!

Best wishes
Jean

Well it only took me 20 times to read this whole thread to finally see where the reference to BIVRI was lurking

Ok...let's try again...British Isles Vital Records Index. Again a resource available only through the Mormon folk and this one only available in a CD set. I think you can use it if you visit your local Family History Library but I've only ever used the set that I purchased. I believe they are identical but could be wrong. So either visit your nearest FHL or search on the www.familysearch.com website where you can locate details on purchasing your own. Not overly expensive and and good resource although much better for some counties as opposed to others. Includes data from England and Ireland too. I know I've talked about it before on TalkingScoct several times so a site search here on BIVRI should help you find what's been said about it before!

Hope this helps.... :D

Hey namesake

Who ever reads the "Post Subject" to see if it has changed

I only noticed it because I wasn't sure what Wanda was referring to

You explained it admirably as I knew you would :D

Best wishes
