I had a spooky experience with a RCE.
One of my ancestors-Jonathan Singer had been found dead in his home by his Mother Charlotte Fraser. No cause of death but I had it in my head that he had committed suicide & I could feel a cut throat involved. It was weird I could picture this young man with blood all over his chest.
Anyway had a look when the RCE's came online & cause of death was not suicide. The poor bloke died of an Epistaxis which is the medical term for a nose bleed. So lots of blood around his chest I would think. It's so weird because I could picture it all so clearly but then I have always had a great imagination.

RCEs on line

Post by car » Tue May 15, 2007 7:57 pm

I too had a death certificate with an RCE but no red button. I sent an email last night and received a reply today, complete with attachment. William Lundie died from injuries to spine and body after falling from scaffolding and joists.

SP might be having a lot of queries about missing RCEs but they are certainly working overtime to sort things out.

Well done :D

RCE's online

Post by speleobat2 » Wed May 16, 2007 11:55 pm

Yesterday I found a red button on my search for Marion Clerihew so I clicked on it only to get a listing with her information in the header, but the actual page, 207, showing only info for Duncan McKenzie. Their instructions under Help said to just click on the View Page After Button until I got to the listing that I was interested in. There was no View Page After Button. At the bottom of the listing, it said Page 1 of 1...

This cost me two credits. I also couldn't locate a contact form anywhere on SP. Where is that located?

Hi Carol

I'll take a swing at this one. In order to view an additional RCE linked to the page with Marion Clerihew on it then the button should appear at the top of the page. It's blue...looks similar to the view next page button when you want to view the whole next page of vital record entries. When you've already clicked on view RCE though the blue button that appears next to the red Leave RCE button is the one that will take you to any additional RCE's linked to that page. Does this make sense? I'm awful at writing out explanations....I could just show you much easier!!!!
As for the contact us link on SP.....it's tiny at the very bottom of the page.....look for it just underneath the scenic image of the castle. Just click on the "contact us" words and it will take you to an online form to complete.

Hope this helps in some small way!

Best wishes
Jean

RCE's online

Jean,

Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately, there is no View Page After button of any color on my listing. All that I get are the red Leave RCE button and the blue Close Viewer button! Your explanation was just fine and I found the contact form too. I have emailed SP so we'll see what happens now.

Hi Carol

Ok...good that you found the contact link! If your Marion Clerihew has a margin notation by her record (usually found written sideways and on the left side) then it sounds like her RCE is missing. If though the page with Marion on it has another record for a Duncan McKenzie and his is the only one with a margin notation then there is nothing wrong with the linking you found. The trick being that you have to veiw the original page of entries first before knowing if there is an RCE that pertains to your person. If there is more than one on a page then you get to view them all for the original 2 credtis. So far I've yet to find an advantage to that but I'm sure someone out there might hit the jackpot and have successive entries with successive RCE's. :D

Best wishes

RCE's online

Jean,

That's exactly what happened. Marion's entry was the first one on the page and Duncan's was the last so the page came up under her name when the only RCE was next to his. Now that I know how this works, I won't waste any more credits! SP emailed me back with the same explanation. I still think that the Scottish records are wonderful. I wish every country's were as complete and easy to access as these are!

As of yesterday, June 4, the RCEs are again online, with further direction on searching and resolving any problems encountered.
