Is this possible?

Post by Kathykins » Fri Nov 02, 2007 2:07 pm

Hi all,

I've been browsing the NAS catalogues today, and there's quite a lot in there I'd like to see, as it may provide leads to dead ends on my tree. Trouble is my old bugbear, distance!

How can I get to see these items? Or get transcriptions? And more importantly, how much will it cost me?

I have had a look on their website, but can't find answers!

Hi Kathykins

On this page http://www.nas.gov.uk/doingResearch/remotely.asp if you scroll down you will see "Making Enquiries" you could contact them by email and find out.
You might get lucky if someone here is going and offer to look for you :D

Good luck

Hi Kathykins:

You might also check at your local public library. They may be able to at least get photocopies of the material at a minimal cost, or locate a copy elsewhere that may be available for loan to your local library.

Hi Kathy
The normal cost for photcopying documents at NAS is £2.50 per 5 sheets from the same document. Best to contact them first and find out how many pages the item (s) you are interested in run to first and get an estimate.

Although NAS do hold some books which local libraries may be able to get hold of, the majority of their holdings are unique archive items of which there is usually no known copy held elsewhere.

Best wishes
Lesley

That's brilliant - thank you all! Our local library down here is pretty rubbish, so I doubt I'll get any help from them, but if they can do me photocopies of the documents I need that'll be a great help! :D
