Just wanted to let everyone know that Ancestry has posted a new database called Perth, Scotland Newspaper Index Cards, 1809-1990 from the A K Bell Local Studies Department.

There is actually a tonne of stuff due to come online at Ancestry for Perth in the very near future - they have been very busy at the A. K. Bell for the last few months...!

I have spent many hours going through the card indexes. It will be nice to do this at home, once the next freebie comes up on ancestry

I popped in to speak to the guy doing the digitisation a few times (good fella from Fife called Ken!), and amongst the records are the 1767 and 1773 censuses for Perth, valuation rolls, cess rolls etc, lots of books as well. Ancestry has been there for about 3 or 4 months. Although it has all been digitised, various indices need to be created still, so I imagine it will roll out as when each index is ready, but don't hold me to that!

Thanks Chris
Sounds like they have been busy! It looks like the card indexes will be of most use to me. My Malcolm's didn't come to Perth until the 1870's or there abouts, so the earlier stuff probably won't be of much use?
I managed to get to the A K Bell archives last week and had a look at school admissions/withdrawals which I found very usefull. I managed to get dates of births, addresses etc plus a couple of new families for both my Malcolm and Cross lines.
Thanks again
