A big hand for GROS

I called them YESTERDAY to order an urgent copy of my marriage certificate (since I turned 60 everyone and his wife needs to see my BC and/or MC

).

It arrived at 9am this very morning, a mere 19 hours after I ordered it!

Is that excellent service or what? =D>

OK, so the Royal Mail played their part too =D>

Its amazing how somethings are delivered quite fast these days especially with the current state of the royal mail (strikes etc).

A bit off topic but I had items shipped from the states on a Thursday and they arrived by Monday morning which I thought was pretty fast.

Funny you should mention reaching 60 Mary - cos I am only weeks away from that too and I was in a bit of a panic when the Pension Office asked for my birth certificate and M/certificate. Not because I don't have them - I have the originals - but I was scared stiff in case they lost them in the post as seems to be the "norm" with Government Departments.

Anyway, I called the Pensions Office as the form I had downloaded didn't have a return address on it - and when I asked for the information I was told that I didn't need to submit anything, and I could do it all over the phone - and all it took was 20 minutes!

Having spent hours filling in an 18 page form and looking out my certificates, it wasn't necessary at all.

So - anyone else out there - don't bother trying to get the certificates - call up and see if you can get away without producing them

The one that really irritates me is replacing my old paper licence for a photo card version.

I've held a UK driving licence since 1978 but they insist on seeing both my Birth and Marriage certificates! I even rang them and asked why it was necessary when they already knew who I was!

They wouldn't shift!

As for my pension - THEY wrote and told me when I was approaching 60, but they STILL insisted on me sending my BC

Even the lady I spoke to agreed it was illogical!

It all sounds such a pain & very time consuming: as they can't all have your BC and/or MC at the same time, it sounds like it could take a while to get all the paperwork seen to...... No easy way to get that free or reduced cost travel, then??

Actually that was so easy

They were doing registrations at my local library where they even did the photo for free! All I had to do was take my Council Tax Bill and proof that I was on the state pension

Job done

I actually put my pension claim in last night, over the phone. They just needed a bit of information to confirm I was who I said I was and its all sorted. So easy.

So why did they insist on seeing my BC?

Could the fact that I was born in Scotland but claiming in England be a factor?

I volunteer at our local Police Station & am presented with all sorts of documents for numerous different reasons.

The one that always makes me chuckle is "Proof of Life".It is usually used for a person who is resident/citizen of the UK but recieving a pension from another State-usually Germany.

They have to show photo ID & proof of address.One time a man came with all his wife's documents-we had to explain very carefully that we actually had to see that she was alive(the clue is in the name)!.

There is one very nice lady who always gives a generous donation to the Police Widows & Orphans fund.They are usually our politest customers.
Makes a change from the Driving Docs & lost dogs & the odd gun & grenades.
