Free Church Records

Post by frances » Tue Apr 22, 2008 5:01 pm

I suspect that my husband's great grandfather DUNCAN MACRAE was a member of the Free Church of Scotland. He was born c1850 , he gives his place of birth on the 1891 census as Petty InvernessShire, and Glenelg in the 1901 census. His parents were Donald/David MacRae and Sarah Macpherson.

I have been unable to trace his birth on SP :( and wonder if indeed he was a member of the Free Church his birth record would be somewhere else.

Any help or advice as to where to go from here would be appreciated :) .

Hi Frances
Many of teh Free Church records can be found at NAS. Try a search on their web site catalogue to see if the church you are interested in is listed.

www.nas.gov.uk

There are no online records of Free chucrh BMDs as far as I'm aware, so it usually means a trip to NAS

Best wishes
Lesley
