Anomalies in Searches made

Whilst checking entries in Family Search, I found the birth dates of my G G Grandparents, James Hutchison and Elizabeth Crawford given as 1761 and 1765 respectively. Meantime, I have a copy of OPR Marriages 465/ 0040 0439 Alloa Clackmannanshire, which states that they "...gave up their names" on 14/01/1771. (Can't find actual date of marriage.)
Given that this would have made James 10 and Elizabeth 6, Family Search is probably incorrect. And yet ... I can find no other evidence of their dates of birth.
I wonder if anybody can help throw some light on this?

Hi Innjess,

I would suspect you have the wrong James and Elizabeth births...there are other extracts on the IGI for a James Hutchinson and Elizabeth Crawford a lot earlier than the two you found which would be more appropriate. I think you need to keep looking.

Family Search is often incorrect - it very much depends on whether the items you are looking at are extracts or submissions. Extracts are taken directly from the source document, (with of course the occaisional mistake and mistranscription thrown in ) whereas submissions are items submitted by other family researchers; some can be very accurate and some not at all. So it is worth not taking anything on IGI as fact - use it more as a searching tool and verify anything you find by viewing the original OPR or BMD entry.

Talking about anomilies my 3rd great gran Elizabeth Holden MS Welsh died according to her death cert 1860 May 12th 7h 30m am and the doctor last saw her on the 11th of may but in the burial book at Wellogate cem in Hawick it says Elizabeth Holdon buried 13 April 1860 lair 1188
Heritors section. That must have been quite a visit on the 11th a month after her burial.
Also, while helping someone with his tree we came across this on CWGC Wright A E Private SR/9399 died 16/06/1915 age 23 from the Royal Fusiliers.
Then a medal index card Wright Albert E R. Fus Pte SR/9399
He received the Victory, British and 1915 Star and in Theatre of War first served it says 1 H and Date of entry therein 28.11.15.
How the heck did Albert die 5 months before he entered the war?
Any ideas for explainations or how to sort out the truth?

On a personal note, my BC is dated November 1939 and my Baptismal Certificate is dated January 1939, seems the Meenister forgot the change of year or else he was prescient or maybe had a bit too much of the communion wine.

I feel lots better now that the replies I have received from several of you on the above topic prove that I am not a complete dimwit, when I set out on my genealogical discoveries. Oh, for a magic, silver bullet!

I think with all this digging for lost rellies its a magic, silver shovel we need or at the very least a silver sledge hammer for those brickwalls.
