First - apologies if I'm posting this on the wrong forum - I couldn't decide which was the right one.
According to Ancestry.co.uk, I have an ancestor who appears for years 1824 - 26 in the Post Office Annual Directory for Edinburgh. I've searched around Ancestry and have also googled the directory, but I can find absolutely nothing that tells me what this directory was and how people came to be entered into it. Does anybody know?

Basically the eqivalent of our yellow pages. There is a link here to a Glasgow directory.
