Ancestry London Records

Post by scooter » Wed Sep 16, 2009 11:49 pm

Hello All,

In addition to the post I made in the England section, Ancestry have now uploaded even more records from the London Metropolitan Archives. To date they now have:

London, England, Births and Baptisms, 1813-1906
London, England, Deaths and Burials, 1813-1980
London, England, Marriages and Banns, 1754-1921
London, England, Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812 (Non-indexed)

I don't know the exact extent of the coverage, I browsed through my surname in the first half of the nineteenth century and it seemed pretty comprehensive. The images were of decent quality too!

Anyway, might be of use for any of you who have had Scots folk head down to the Big Smoke in the past.

Cheers!

Scott

Hi Scott

Just thought I'd freshen up this wee post of yours.

The LMA site is very interesting - I only wish I could find an ancestor who went to London, so I could use it!

It's been an absolute blessing for me. A great uncle sloped off to London in 1880 and I've now got baptism info on some and marriage info on most of his kids. All I could get before was census stuff.

I believe the database was updated again on the 27th January, and I'm sure there's more to come. :D

Cheers,

I was greatful of a few who ventured upwards or sideways (from Kent, Essex and Suffolk) but some of the records possibly deaths, cant remember exactly off hand which ones, are from Poor House records so they are very sparse, I have been having some fun with these over the last few weeks, amost gives me a reason to go to LMA :) as i am not having much luck far north.
Scotland - Donaldson / Moggach / Shaw / Geddes / Sim / Gray / Mackie / Richards / Joel / Coull / Mckimmie / Panton / McGregor
Ireland and Scotland - Casey / McDade / Phillips / McCandle / Dinely / Comaskey + various spellings
