1837 Pigot's directory for Glasgow.

Post by Ann In the UK » Mon Oct 26, 2009 4:24 pm

I came across this:

http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=0ecN ... q=&f=false

Is anyone aware of any others Scottish directories online?

Regards,
Ann

Snap Ann, beat you by a whisker. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=13638

I’ve done the occasional search in google books with directory and Scotland or various Scottish cities in the title box but haven’t seen anything new lately.

All the best,
Alan

I like it Sally. It reminded me that I had some Scottish Books buried in a folder in my bookmarks I had forgotten about. I’ve downloaded quite a few others onto a DVD-RW.

Google Books has a facility where you can make up your own library. I may give that a try. Apparently you can add multiple labels so that you can sort by label and add comments etc. It looks to be a fairly quick process. Here’s someone’s unlabelled sample list. http://books.google.com/books?uid=11427 ... N&start=10

It doesn’t look as good as yours though. There’s some good stuff on Google. Google Docs is worth a look if you have a use for it.

All the best,
Alan

There is the 1787 Glasgow Directory by Nathaniel Jones here:

http://glasgowstories.com/first-glasgow-directory

Use the menus at the side to get around. I had to search for this one again, as it seems to keep disappearing and I had two dead links in my bookmarks for it, so hopefully it will stay where it is now!

Then there is this 1927 Directory:

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.anc ... x-glas.htm

And in Google books, one for 1866:

http://books.google.com/books?id=NO8NAA ... utput=html

I love browsing through these. I have only found a couple of people from my tree in them, but it is good reading nevertheless.

Researching: Easton ( Renfrewshire, Dunbarton and Glasgow), Corr (Londonderry and Glasgow), Carson (Co. Down, Irvine, Ayrshire and Glasgow), Logan (Londonderry and Glasgow)

These are most of the Google books I’ve downloaded or bookmarked, mainly because they seemed interesting at the time. The labels and notes are my own, either to complete the books title or to clarify the content. You can sort them by clicking on the links at the left. http://books.google.com.au/books?uid=21 ... 9559896336

Unfortunately a Google ‘library’ can only include Google Books and not those from the Internet Archive such as Sally has included on her web page.
