19th Century Newspapers

Post by nelmit » Tue Nov 02, 2010 7:57 pm

Great news for those with a Glasgow Library membership - you can now access the 19th Century Newspapers at any Glasgow library.

I'll keep using Alan's link viewtopic.php?f=1&t=15443&p=123279#p123279 from home as long as can mind you!

Regards,
Annette

That is great news Annette. I hope you didn’t break anybody's arms while you were twisting them.

And the Demo is still going strong and accessible from home. It’s always nice to have more than one point of access just in case of an emergency. Anyone who hasn’t yet accessed the Demo should do so without delay. As I said a couple of months ago, it may not be there tomorrow.

Scots can also get access from home via the NLS. Further and Higher Education students and staff in the UK can access via their institution. South of the border, last I heard, there was just a smattering of County Libraries that have subscribed and no general access.

As far as I can see the British Newspapers 1800-1900 pay site still doesn’t have the Dundee Courier and the others that were included in 19C Newspapers Part 2. Perhaps they’re still trying to figure out how to deliver them.

All the best,
Alan

Hello bejantine78, and welcome to TalkingScot.

Could you please be more specific about which newspapers, and if possible provide a link to where this information was found. All I’ve heard about to date has been Glasgow Herald, Aberdeen Journal, and Caledonian Mercury in Part 1, and Dundee Courier in Part 2 of 19th Century British Library Newspapers. Did you mean Google News Archive? That site has recently added some Scottish newspapers.

All the best,
Alan
