Does anyone know what the letters mean next to the tenement number? (i.e. 110 D)
Is is as simple as flat letter? I though flats were numbered 0/1, 0/2, 1/1, 1/2 etc

Re: What do the letters mean?
What is this page from?
Its not a Valuation Roll, is it a Voters Roll?
Glasgow temenent numbers were only recent given flat numbers, is in the last maybe twenty years. Before that every house up a close had the same number, surprisingly few problems with post even hen 2 families with the same surname lived there.
If its a Voters roll, then perhaps it's an indication of postal votes.
I note the E entry,,has another address noted, so that perhaps denotes a second home so that would mean they only could vote in one place.
The D entries aren't consistent as there seems to be a husband and wife one with and one without.
Interested to know the answer here too.

Re: What do the letters mean?
It might tell you what it means on the first pages if you are able to leaf through the book.
This is what I got when I Googled 'what does the letter 'D' mean after the address on a voter's roll'
''D (Dw) Spouse's occupation qualification. E. Not entitled to vote in local or parliamentary elections.''

Anne H

Re: What do the letters mean?
After searching around I assume you got this from Ancestry.com and that you are looking at the 1940 Register of Voters. If you browse to the beginning of the book (image 4), it tells you what the letters mean.
Electors whose names are prefixed with the capital letter D vote at Parliamentary Elections only
[Electors whose names are prefixed with the capital letter] E vote at Town Council Elections only, and at a Poll under the Temperance (Scotland) Act of 1913.
Where no capital letter is prefixed to the name of an elector, such elector is entitled to vote at Parliamentary and Town Council Elections, and at a Poll under the Temperance (Scotland) Act 1913.
Electors whose names are prefixed with the small letter “a” are Absent Voters within the meaning of the Representation of the People Act 1918
Best wishes,
Sarah
P.S. Snap, Anne!

Hello, Maureen
It was on Ancestry.com, but requires a subscription. If you don't have one, perhaps your local library might?
Best wishes,
Sarah
