Where?research material Leadhills 1750-1850 family names

Post by the pretender » Wed Feb 01, 2006 2:48 pm

Can anyone suggest both on and off line material for researching family names in the Leadhills area around 1750 to 1850 other than BMDs, census, sasines, wills and court records.
Am aware of excellent online book by W.S. Harvey at www.gsk58.dial.pipex.com
Gods Treasure House by Rev Porteous www.crawford-john.org.uk
And the Old and New Statisitical Accounts (from David in previous posting) at http://edina.ac.uk/statacc/

Lastly many thanks to those who replied to my previous posting about no marriage listings before 1855 for Leadhills.
Couple of things I uncovered on Leadhills.
The graveyard for Leadhills pre 1855 ish is not in Leadhills but is Kirkton, which is between Abington and Crawford.
 In these days girls who got to the alter without being pregnant in this area got a prize of a white shawl/headscarf for what was no mean feat.
Looking into the STEWARTs of Leadhills, Sanquhar and Wanlockhead 1700 - 1980.
Drem/Ormiston, East Lothian 1820 - 1900
Fountainbridge area (including Banefield and Murdoch Terrace) Edinburgh 1880 - 1960

Hi Pretender
maybe:
http://www.roll-of-honour.com/Lanarkshi ... hills.html
(later than you had in mind)

...and a least a day or two in NAS. Who knows what might be lurking in there? Every time I visit, something I wasn't looking for and had no idea existed seems to turn up - maybe the same might happen for you!

If you haven't already then try the online catalogue at:
http://www.dswebhosting.info/NAS/
...but the catalogue doesn't (and couldn't!) list everything there!

..oh, and MIs, if there are any.

Best wishes
Lesley
