Wini -- If you want to see where Polmadie Brickworks was located, just outside Ruthergen, the link below will take you there. Just select map "X3.3"

Govan Colliery Railway was just to the south of Polmadie Brickworks, so maybe he was taking a shortcut and was hit by a train. There's also a couple of "tracks"(?) or roads running from the clay pit to a part of the brickworks building -- so maybe they had a small private railway line?

I believe the Glasgow Evening Times also has a large archive, and the Rutherglen Reformer at http://iclanarkshire.icnetwork.co.uk/contactus/ might be able to help. Good luck!

If anyone had any spare time when visiting the Mitchell
Samuel Gunn died 7th June at 5pm Mallomine brickworks, Polmadie
His home address was 39 Polmadie Streeet, Father William Gunn, Police Constable and Mother Annie mcPhie.
I had a look at the map with the Brickworks marked. i wonder if he was following older brothers.

9 June 1903
Shocking Death of A Child - A child, two years of age, named Samuel Gunn, met its death in a shocking manner on Saturday afternoon on the private railway of Messrs William Dixon & Company (Limited), Dixon Street, Glasgow. The child was playing between the rails, whilst higher up the incline several boys had started a waggon which was stationed on a small siding. The vehicle rushed downhill with considerable speed, knocking down and killing the child instantaneously. The body was shockingly mutilated. The matter has been reported to the police fiscal.

Many thanks for that. To be honest I hadn't read properly wini's original post and appreciated that a 2 year old was involved, - if I had I might have suggested that the "East" newspaper might have reported a "West" event

I'd guess that it's Mallsmire rather than Mallomine Brickworks. See map X3.7 Polmadie Street is also shown in the upper left corner of the map.
