Vital Records .....

Post by thomsos » Tue Jun 20, 2006 6:14 pm

I have just purchased the British Vital Records, but I'm not sure if I have wasted my money, but I can't seem to find any of my ancestors, well I did find 1 family, is this normal? or is it maybe I'm not searching correctly, any suggestions how to get the best from them

I have bought them as well and have had no luck finding anyone, like you I am not sure if I am using them correctly, I have not found anyone but will try again.

Any advice on the use of Vital Records would be very welcome.

Dont buy them!!!!!!!!

I am in the middle of moving down to Somerset at the minute once we get settled in I can do look up for you. Not that I hold up much hope as everyone I have looked for so far is missing. Give me until middle of July and give me a reminder and I will get them out and check for you.

regards,

It might be an idea to see if your local library has a set of the CD's?
I was lucky enough to find some very useful information about some of my ancestors there although I don't think it would have been worth buying them!

Hi All

I thought it was just me! :o I can't find anyone on them! I can't even find the people that are on the IGI.

I thought that I was doing something wrong. Not really glad to know that others are having the same problem.

Regards

Sheila

Looks like I'm in the minority so far but I use the set almost on a daily basis!

I bought the set a couple of years ago and can say that I've had much more than my money's worth. Granted, a few of my ancestors aren't to be found but then they're not to be found anywhere else anyway. I'm glad I forked out the £20.00 as I dread to think how much all the searches I've done to date would have cost on SP.

Think I'll have to get in touch with LDS about this. A friend checked an item she found on Vital Records on their site some months ago that isn't coming up on the CD's.

Maybe you could give some helpful hints or is it just a case of they are either there or they are not.

Thanks to all for comments and Audrey for offer.
