Glasgow Evening Times Roll of Honour - World War 1

Post by Awgie » Tue Jul 25, 2006 8:06 pm

No doubt someone has already posted this link :-
http://www.glasgow.gov.uk/en/Residents/ ... honour.htm

It reads as follows:-

Evening Times Roll of Honour
During the First World War, the Evening Times newspaper printed short obituaries of people, (mostly from the Glasgow area), who died or were reported missing in the war.
Most of these obituaries were accompanied by a photograph of these long-gone heroes, often now the only one that exists.
The Mitchell has produced an index to some 5,700 of these entries as a valuable addition to their Family History resources. This list is available to view in PDF format.

The index finally allowed me to trace an obituary for my Great Uncle Abraham Walker who was killed in 1915 but more importantly, I now have a picture of him!!!

Hi Awgie
Good link. I had seen this before but had forgotten all about it! Will add it to the links in cemeteries & MIs.

Best wishes

Hi Awgie and Lesley
I posted on this a few months back when I found an obituary and photo of my great uncle John Barr...
After a bit of further research I found that he died on the first day of the battle of Loos (September 25th 1915).
His name is listed on the Loos memorial.

Jim
researching
McIntyre, Menzies, Cowley, Pearson, Copland, McCammond, Forbes, Edgar etc. in Scotland
Skinner in Northumberland

How do you go about applying for a photo?

My rellies arent on it yet. Also is there somewhere to look for a roll of honour for a Manchester Regiment?
