I was wondering if weddings would be mentioned in the local papers and have pictures in the year 1915/16?

Does anyone know the likelyhood of finding something like that?

Yes is the answer I have two such from newspapers although pre-war& post-war.One in Scotland-Elgin & the other Canada with a lovely photo of the bridal party in their finery adjacent to their get away vehicle a sled!
In searching in the Archives for 1915 Death Intimations it seems to be a poor year for column inches & photos.

In the best case, there will be a detailed list of the guests, and their relationship to the couple.

Even if the people were not middle class but were coal/shale miners?

Where would I obtain such records for St Giles, Edinburgh? I have been trying local libraries for death notices and still waiting on replies.

Even for such couples, yes, but the level of detail might not have been as great as for other marriages ..............
Try also the local newspapers ...........

How far back in local papers would these notices go? I know photography started in the late 1800's and that photos are rare from that period.

As is the case today, in terms of mention of peoples's names, so it was back in the late 1800s, - i.e. the sales of a local newspaper were increased according to the number of names mentioned !!

Try the Mitchell they have films of most local (to Glasgow) papers of that period.
Be prepared to get side-tracked as you read them.I have often come out with something totaly different to what I went a looking for.
If you live close enough to the area you are looking see if the Local Archives can help.I for example when visiting my Mum am often in the Archive section at Clydebank Public Library& very useful it is too.

Thanks, I was hoping to contact a local library rather than having to pay for a copy from the Mitchell.

I am unable to goto the area as I am in Aberdeen and working full time until Uni starts.
