Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness

Post by Ted » Mon Sep 25, 2006 11:05 pm

Hi Everyone

Apart from the truly brilliant name - this site displays a host of kind folk who will do genealogical research in Pennsylvania, US - for freebie - form an orderly Q please:-

I remember mentioning it in the thick of a thread a while back Ted, but very worthwhile bringing it back in its own thread.

I was extremely fortunate there - a very kind lady in Canada found a whole pile of stuff for me - certificates, wedding announcements, etc., - all I could give her was a name and year of immigration and she came back with a whole family! I'm sure it doesn't always work that way, but yes, great name, great idea and best of all - it does what it says on the can.

Best wishes

In addition, RAOGK has volunteers in many countries.

So true,

I've had help in Australia as well as Scotland, and they have been great. Very helpful, very knowledgeable and you end up like old friends :) When you get stuck on something, they are worth checking out.

Hi Ted

From the number of look-ups and searches done on here I feel that we are performing the same function and in the same spirit.
Perhaps we should change our site name :?:

Do they have as much joking and fun into the bargain as we do :?:

Where else would you get a detailed explanation of how your volunteer managed to track down that elusive relative.

This is not a grouse or a put-down. Just an appreciation of the good folks on TS :D :D :D

Hi Russell

I absoutely agree - the advice, help and willingness to share knowledge found on TS is second to none. The worldwide expertise provide by the members here is quite outstanding - so even when , like my current quest, the search for info is in the new world our members here are the 1st choice for suggestions.

I must admit that the close community feeling and downright guid homour found here on TS is a bit lacking on some others sites.

Best regards

Just echoing Russell's and Ted's comments regarding the TS members' kindnesses and willingness to go out of their way.

From TSAG, Moderators and Members - everyone gives of themselves, their time, their knowledge and yes, (contrary to all the tight-fisted jokes about Scots) even of their SP credits!

So here's to them all! =D> =D> =D>

Ted's posting of RAOGK is just one example of how everyone commits to giving insights and support to one another.

Hi all,

Please don't think anyone is not appreciative of all the wonderful help on TS. This is a great forum, and I for myself really enjoy reading the topics that are posted, and love the people here. I never go online without calling into the forum here.
But that doesn't mean there aren't other sites that are good too. When you are involved in genealogy, you will tend to help anyone else who needs help with their research, here or anywhere else, and that is the nice thing about it :)
