Have you searched for them in the censuses? Their place of birth would be noted in these. If you are very lucky, some even gave the county as well as just Ireland.

The 1841 census only indicates the place of birth with I for Ireland, E for England and if in the county of the census it shows a Y for Yes or if born in Scotland, but not in that county it has N for No.

McDonald or MacDonald (some couldn't make up their mind!), Bonner, Crichton, McKillop, Campbell, Cameron, Gitrig (+other spellings), Clark, Sloan, Stewart, McCutcheon, Ireland (the surname)

Hi Helen,

If you do establish an Irish link via a census, check any birth certificates you have for any of their Scottish born children as that should (but not always) give the date & place of the marriage of the parents.....it helped me get from the whole of Ireland down to a small parish......that is, of course, assuming they married in Ireland!

Good luck.
