I really don't have much of a clue about the IGI so could someone explain in simple language to this computer feartie, technophobe, dunderheed...... etc. how do I get any more details on this marriage which I found while searching the IGI:- Felix Currie x Susan Healy 28/4/1857 Glasgow Hutchestown Batch No. M119341.
Tried downloading details but nothing happened. I don't even know what a gedcom is or how you get one.
I tried to find this marriage on Scotland's People but not showing up there. (got the cert of a later marriage in 1863 for these two which I am sure is correct)
I did look up previous postings for advice but I don't really understand them as I am only learning the basics of genealogy and computer jargon.
Would it be easier to go to a LDS centre and would I get the details there?

Hi Fergie,
Using the free part of the search on ScotlandsPeople, there is a marriage of a FELIX CURRIE and SUSAN HEALY registered in 1863 in Hutchesonstown. I think there is enough co-incidence there for you to invest in downloading that certificate.
Not having seen the certificate, I see three possibilities.
(1) The IGI has is wrong
(2) ScotlandsPeople is wrong
(3) An 1857 marriage was registered in 1863 for some reason.
All the best,
AndrewP
[PS. David beat me to it.]

I have the certificate downloaded for the 1863 marriage. Felix is shown as age 18 and Susan as age 20. If they had been married in 1857 Felix would have been 12 or 13. I know somethings wrong but I want to check out the LDS information as they lied about their ages the rest of their lives. How do I see the details of the LDS entry?
See these Curries!!!! My mother who is 78 remembers snippets of stories her grandfather told her as a child about his parents (Felix and Susan). When I can piece together all the bits I think there is a book coming on. I'm more of a quill pen person than computer expert so keep it simple!!

Hi Fergie,
The LDS entry is taken from statutory records - that 1863 certificate that you have. I would expect that this has been a human error on the IGI. Batch M119341 has those mariages extracted from the marriage registers of Hutchesonstown from 1855 to 1875.
The LDS extracted records of 1855 to 1875 in Scotland come only from the statutory registers, the same lot as can be found in a portion of ScotlandsPeople.
All the best,
AndrewP

Hi Fergie:
As you've located Felix's and Susan Healy's birth in ScotlandsPeople as 1863, I've looked in the 1861 Scottish census and there are only 3 Felix Currie listings. Their ages were 5 years, 21 years and 32 years.
I think we can rule out the 5 year old, but perhaps you should have a look to see which of the other two is YOUR Felix. You may even find, from the census record that he was not born in Scotland.
Susan Healy does not show up on the 1861 census.
Are the names of Felix's parents on the marriage registration? Have you tried entering a parental search on IGI? Maybe he is one of those people who went by their second name i.e. John Felix Currie.
Your Grandmother may be right about those Curries
- there are only 2 Felix Currie listings in each of the subsequent census records and the ages are 1871 - 26 and 31 years; 1891 41 and 50 years ... and I thought MY math was bad

Hi Fergie,
The young Felix Currie is listed in the IGI. Was "your" Felix Currie married before he married Susan Healy (or did he father a child with another woman before he was married)?
From the online IGI,
FELIX CURRIE born 01-Dec-1855 to FELIX CURRIE and CATHERINE KILDAY in Anderston, Glasgow, Lanarkshire.
Here's hoping that he was registered within the three weeks required in law, as 1855 certificates hold more information than certificates issued in any other year.
Another from the IGI that may be of interest, but more difficult to access is this one.
FELIX CURRY born 15-May-1875 to FELIX CURRY and ANNE MARTIN in Fermanagh, Ireland
Or another Glasgow one from a generation or two previous:
FELIX CURRIE married AGNES QUIGLEY in Glasgow on 28-Nov-1809.
This IGI entry is extracted from the Old Parochial Registers (OPRs), so its image is not yet available on ScotlandsPeople, but you should be able to see on microfilm it at the Mitchell Library in Glasgow.
All the best,
AndrewP

Frances, Thanks for looking - they are a confusing lot. I found Felix in 1861 census with 2 of his young children at the home of Susan Haley (Healy) who is shown as unmarried. It doesn't help that the spelling of the Irish names constantly changes. I've got the names of Felix's parents from his marriage cert. and the 1841 census. They were Hamilton Currie and Sara Begley. Hamilton died before 1855 and I couldn't find them on the IGI but then I don't really know what I'm doing.
Andrew, thanks. If "my" Felix was the father of the child born in 1855 I think he must have been 14 or 15 as he is shown as a one year old in the 1841 census. Hmm, Could tie in with the story my mother remembers about him - something about being run out of Ireland at the point of a gun - methinks he might have been run out of Anderston anyway.
Must get in to the Mitchell when I have time.

Re Felix Currie & Susan Healy
Hi Fergie,
This looks like the Felix born 1855 with his parents, Felix CURRIE & Catherine KILDAY.
--
1861 census 644-8 Ed 9 p 4 (Anderston)
Felix CURRIE, 32, b Cavan, Ireland
Catherine CURRIE, 38, b Donegal, Ireland
Felix CURRIE, 5, b Barony, Glasgow
John CURRIE, 25, b Cavan, Ireland
Agnes CURRIE, 29, b Carrickfergus, Ireland
John CURRIE, abt 1, b Glasgow.
--
It seems your Felix CURRIE & Susan HEALY had 3 children before they decided to marry in 1863.

Felix born in 1855 doesn't seem to be my direct line but he might be a cousin or something. I'm have enough trouble with the one!
I've been trying to trace the parents of Felix as shown on the 1841 census:
Hamilton Currie b. 1815 Scotland and Sarah Begley b. 1817 Ireland (or Stranraer or Ayr as stated on later census). I can't find a marriage as they were Catholic and I would need to search parish records for various locations. The first three were born in Ayr (or Ayrshire) and the next two were born in Greenock. They then moved to Glasgow and had at least another 2 children. I have them on the census'. Hamilton died in Glasgow before 1855 and Sara and some of her children were in Cambusnethan at 1861 census and I found her in London in 1881 living with her son. She died there.
So, If anyone can find Hamilton and Sarah on the IGI or elsewhere I would be so pleased. I have found a few Hamilton Curries but the dates don't tie in (not even nearly) There are Curries in Eaglesham and I trawled through the census as there was a baby called Hamilton Currie born there but I can't make the connection.
My mother thinks it was Felix run out of Ireland at the point of a gun but maybe it was his father Hamilton. My mother was a child when she picked up snippets of info. and I think the stories have changed in the telling but they had their families pretty young so there might have been a shotgun wedding (or two).
