Apprentiship Lists 1840's

Post by Wanda Stevenson » Sun Oct 15, 2006 4:46 pm

Am trying to discover apprentiship lists for a couple of occupations Baker, and Candle Maker . Information on 1841 census indicate that occupations at the time were either candlemaker,, or candlemaker journeyman, or candlemaker apprentice. Any ideas would be helpful.
Cheers
Wanda

Hi Wanda
If you can tell us where in Scotland you are looking we can maybe help. Different records for different areas survived or didn't!

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Lesley;

Areas I'm interested in are Glasgow around 1841 my ggg-grandfather is listed as a candlemaker on the 1841 census for Glasgow as well as two sons one was a journeyman candlemaker and the other an apprentice candlemakerName was John Stevenson and they lived on Clyde st Parish of Barony.
Thanks for any help.

Hi Wanda
Pity it wasn't Edinburgh - there seem to be quite a lot of records for that that area, though mostly earlier than you were looking for:

Maybe the Mitchell library might be able to help?
