My first reaction to more free Ancestry.com - was "I couldn't possibly"

I'm so backed up with stuff I found last time - but maybe I could swing a passenger list or two

I'm rather liking some of the flash based microsites that Ancestry have been publishing of late. I thought the 1930 US census looked gorgeous a few months ago and the latest instalment of the passenger lists/ellis island 'experience' looks very impressive. Whether this is a case of style over substance is another matter, although I do find a lot of online databases really dull to look at. Of course the content is the main thing, however I don't see any reason why they can't look a little more stylish. You get a real sense of history from the ancestry offerings, the Ellis Island section even looks quite cinematic.

Anyway, enough rambling.

I found the Passenger Lists extension really useful as I made contact with 2 people in USA the day after my free Ancestry expired. I am researching Caddell from Scotland/Ireland and was contacted by a lady from USA with a new family member. I have since found him in Passenger Lists quoting my relative Joshua Caddell as his brother.

I'm soooo jealous Susan  - after spending hours looking at all sorts of permutations I can't find any of mine (except 2 I already knew about).

Hi,
I found you have to be pretty specific on your searches & having found some years of immigration on last weeks free census, this has proved to give the results I was looking for.
Now following Ross, Beattie & Gregg to Boston.

Susan
Are you aware flight lists from Prestwick are also shown 1940's-1950's?

Can you tell me where I can find the Prestwick flight lists, Susan? I've looked at the database lists in both Ancestry.com and co.uk and can't see that anywhere.
Thanks,
Elisabeth

Prestwick Passenger Lists

Post by SuMacd » Sat Nov 11, 2006 4:14 pm

Hi Elisabeth
If you go into Ancestry & search Passenger Lists(Select Search followed by Immigration/Emigration). Enter your ancestors name & Prestwick into Port of Departure - this lets you see what is available. Some of the entries don't appear to have a name against them, but, others do, so here's hoping you are lucky.
