Something's gone drastically wrong here - "Hacked By StormBoys / SecretHackers.Org"

http://www.lanarkshirefhs.org.uk

I hope they get it sorted out soon!

Hi Anne,
What a nuisance these clowns are.
Why anyone would choose a Family History site to hack into beats me.
I have seen the same thing happen on other web pages and they never come back on the Net again.
I hope someone will pass on this to other similar sites, so they can be on their guard.

The Admin Group are aware of this.

The version of the phpBB software that TS uses is more up-to-date than the version that seems to have led to the problem on the LFHS site, and, forbye, quite a few others DGs.

You would think if someone had the intelligence to hack into systems they would want to use their talent to good use.

That is just mindless.

I think quite a number of them do, eventually...they just need to grow up a bit first!

Best wishes

For those interested, it looks like the LFHS site is up and running again :)

Wee bit of insight here...

One of my many IT contracts had me working and living in Amsterdam for six months. One of my fellow contractors belonged to a group of "hackers" who actually had a league table where they scored each other on the number and importance of the sites they had hacked.

He seemed very perturbed at my reaction to his activities and couldn't understand why I got so angry about it. You see, they got high scores for shutting down "good" sites, but low scores for "nasty" sites.

This young man was, like me, earning big bucks on the IT contract, and was a very talented programmer, but he got more satisfaction from this other activity. The logic escaped me!
