You know those hot matches that they send you every so often?

If you are like me then you will have been ignoring the ones where there is only 1 hotmatch. I worked on the principle that if there was only one hotmatch then it would be the same name but a completely different family from mine.

Today, having nothing better to do, I trawled through 52 pages of names, where there was only 1 hotmatch.

To my surprise I found 6 that matched people in my tree perfectly

Sent off the e mails this evening. At this point in time I've had 3 replies and yes, they are all positive.

Soooooooooo one of these days/evenings when you have nothing better to do........have a trawl........you never know what you may find!!!

Hello Jean

I got mine the other day and i do trawl through them and i usually get 5 pages worth. What irritates me the most about hot matches is say i have a Jane Smith born 1904 Glasgow Scotland i would like to know why they will also send me Jane Smith b 1904 in England, Ireland or Wales when i only want the Scottish one :x ( just using the name as an example i dont have one !)
Scotland - Donaldson / Moggach / Shaw / Geddes / Sim / Gray / Mackie / Richards / Joel / Coull / Mckimmie / Panton / McGregor
Ireland and Scotland - Casey / McDade / Phillips / McCandle / Dinely / Comaskey + various spellings

Hi Tracey

That's why for the past 18 months I have ignored the matches where there is only one. I got fed up looking at Jane Smiths. John Browns etc living in completely the wrong places.

I built up to 50 odd pages, so I thought I'd just have a look and get rid.

Was I surprised!!!!

Jean

Yup! Know the feeling. So many total unmatches, but then one that turns out to be an nth cousin umpteen times removed. Still, he is family, after all! :D and I now know about another set of people I am related to. :D

We're talking about my GGGGrandfather, also being his GGGG, etc... Grandfather :D

I've found quite a few people through hot matches. Some are married into my family, so I only have the one match, but I still like to connect things up. I've just found someone who is also researching Knoxes - there don't seem to be too many of us, so I was very pleased to hear from her. I agree about the mismatched places of birth - very irritating, as are all those 0 0 0 ones!

Looking through my hot matches recently I discovered a member had 3 matches to our tree - 2 in mine and one in my husband's. She had managed to get back a couple of generations further back than I had and................yes! him indoors and I share the same 6 times gr gr'parents!!! When we met we didn't know that our ancestors had lived anywhere near each other but further into the research we realised that we had quite a few places in common.
Must have been the family resemblance that attracted us to each other :!:

I don't know about anyone else, but i've recently had names come up in my 'Hot Matches' which just aren't in my tree. The Japanese names gave it away. :? :?

I'm afraid I'm not that exotic. :(

Yes, that's happened to me - but not the Japanese ones. I do have some names I'm not very familiar with in my tree, so at first I thought these were some of those. I wonder how on earth it happens?? :?

Like everyone else I've got really irriatated with GR sometimes but every so often they turn up trumps. Has anyone else noticed that sometimes the main index says 1 hot match but when you actually look at it there are quite a few - I've just had one like that & yes, he is related!
