Hi all
Just found this whilst looking for something else!
Archive Material and Former Fellows of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. 1783-2002
http://www.royalsoced.org.uk/archive/index.htm
- various .pdf files listed. Biographical details on those listed seem to be good, but those listed tend to be the better-off, academics & etc.
The RSE was created in 1783 by Royal Charter for “the advancement of learning and useful knowledge”.
There have been many distinguished Fellows of the Society. Adam Smith was a founder member in 1783 and since that time the Fellowship has included Walter Scott (a past President), Joseph Black, James Hutton, Charles Darwin, John Logie Baird, William Wordsworth, Niels Bohr, Francis Crick, and Charlotte Auerbach amongst many others of note. Currently the Society’s Honorary Fellows include Dame Muriel Spark, Sir James Black, Sir Paul Nurse, Lord (George) Robertson, Frederick Sanger, and James Watson.
Best wishes
Lesley
