electoral rolls?

Post by karenc » Fri Jan 26, 2007 12:54 am

Hi everyone

right! my dad remembers going to visit a relative of his who stayed in blackridge, west lothian. now all he knows is that her name was bella sima and that she lived with two men, who he thinks might have been her sons.

what i wondered was if there would be any way to find them on electoral rolls and if we could find them would that help us to try and find out who they were?

any help or suggestions gratefully welcomed :)

Hi Karen,

Try contacting the West Lothian Local Studies Library in Blackburn (details on the TalkingScot Libraries webpage). They may well hold the Electoral Rolls for the county. If they don't have them there, they should be able to advise you where to find them. As Blackridge is quite a small place, it wouldn't take long to look through the book for the people you are seeking.

The electoral rolls are normally arranged in street and house order without a surname index, it is a matter of looking at the people's names. For a place the size of Blackridge, that is okay, but for a town or city if you do not know the address you are looking for, then that woiuld be like looking for the proverbial needle in a haystack.

All the best,

AndrewP

Karen,

A search at BT.com gives only 3 Sim results in Blackridge. Might be worth dropping a line if it's contact you're looking for.

Hi Karen

The rolls are held at Blackburn Library - I have been there checking out some of my lot - the lady who runs the section there is truly helpful - and even solved a long standing brickwall I had a couple of years ago.

Good luck

Ted
