Help Looking for an article

Post by Pandabean » Tue Feb 27, 2007 7:37 pm

I was looking for information on Slains Castle, North of Aberdeen and found reference to the following:

C.Michael Hogan, Architecture of New Slains Castle, Scotland, Lumina Technologies, August, 2005

I can't seem to find this online anywhere and was wondering if anyone had heard of it or knew where to obtain a copy?

Thanks :D

Hi Andy:

I searched for Slains Castle and found a few references which ultimately led to Wikpedia with the exact same wording, which is not a very substantial citation.

Nothing shows up for that author or by that title in the index at the Royal British Institute of Architecture http://www.architecture.com/go/Architec ... y_897.html

Oddly enough  there is a citation for an article by another author about Slains Castle, coincidentally  printed in August 2005.

I'll send the info to you by PM in case there are copyright issues.

I did eventually find the article which seems to be a part of some builders magazine/paper. It was not what I hoped for but it was talking about the redevelopment of the ruin into luxury flats and how it was opposed by the locals.

I've been to Slains Castle, or what's left of it. It has a fascinating history. The locals swear it was where Bram Stoker got the inspiration for Dracula's Castle as he used to stay there. Another one of its past owners Lord Errol was involved in a sensational murder case in Kenya in the 1930s - there was a film made of it. Took place in Happy Valley.
Anyway, Slains Castle stands right on the cliff edge facing the North Sea. Very dramatic. It would be awful if were turned into flats. It should be restored.
