Burke's Peerage

Post by StewL » Thu Mar 22, 2007 4:17 am

I just receive an email from Origins this morning saying the they now have access to online Burke's Peerage.

Of course this is absolutely of no use to me, as my lot were poor, common, maybe ne'er do wells  and others of the great unwashed variety. Not a leaping Lord amongst them or any other form of peerage. I don't think I even had any that mucked oot the lairds stables or any other part of the estates.

I think it is a bit pricey to access, but then as I said I'll no be botherin masell aboot it anyway.

But for those with a bit o blue blood coursing through the veins it might be helpful, although I dont know if they list those born on the wrong side of the sheets

I'm a bit like you, Stewie. None of my lot are likely to be listed anywhere there.................

....but then we can always live in hope

Hi Stewie & Mary

I am certain that none of my family would be in Burke's Peerage. My ancestors were too busy doing all the hard work, like the rest of the 90% of the population did, that makes a country run. :D

Right enough Sheila,

While they might have held the reins, it was the horses who did all the pulling

I noticed this large carrot dangling in the email I received!

"With many family records in Burke's containing hundreds of names it may not be as difficult as you imagine to find you have some connection to British Royalty or the US Presidency; Thomas Jefferson's entry lists over 2,500 descendants and that for George Washington lists over 1,000. An article on the site describes in detail how one researcher was able to confirm a connection to Edward III of England."

Hi Scooter

Isn't that just wonderful?
I find it amazing, especially about George Washington, since he never had any children.
