Hello,
I found details of a bankruptcy which involved my greatgrandmother's brother on NAS site and emailled WRH asking if I could see further details.
The reply informed me that the documents can be viewed at WRH with 24 hours notice.
The documents contain minutes, statements of affairs, petitions and declarations of parties involved, associated loose papers including a trustees report and miscellaneous correspondence.
Does anyone know how many pages are likely to be in such a document or is it a case of 'how long is a piece of string' ? Ideally I would like copies of everything but if it is going to be costly then I would think again.
As I live in the south of England (I know, I can't win them all but the weathers great!) I won't get to WRH in the near future.
Carole

Hi Carole,
My 2xgreat grandfather went bankrupt in 1878 and I too found papers for his sequestration at WRH. I have transcribed these and placed them on my family history website at http://chrispatonscotland.tripod.com/id29.html so if you have a look for John Brownlee MacFarlane, you'll see what the level of detail was like.
Hope this helps!

Hi Carole
Just to say that I was lucky enough to find papers at WRH relating to bankruptcy for two of my ancestors. There was a huge amount of information and it covered an awful lot of pages. It took me hours to transcribe, but it was way beyond 'well worth it' and absolutely fascinating - broke through a brick wall I'd been banging my head against for over four years too! All I can say is, if you can possibly afford it, it's well worth getting photocopies (would imagine this would be cheaper than paying someone to transcribe the documents - sounds like there's a lot of different documents in the bundle).
I noticed that NAS does say that you can order copies, and that it will give you an estimate of the cost (if I've read the following correctly).

Hope this helps and that you get the info you're after.Terms and conditions for copying records
While most copies provided by NAS are made as a result of personal visits to our search rooms, we can often provide copies of documents to customers who write to, or e-mail us. If you would like to use this service, however, you should have a reasonably good idea of the document you are looking for. For example, there are certain series where we can readily identify the document you require, provided that you give us details such as names, dates, places. Where we have to search for a document, we will normally spend about 20 minutes on your enquiry. This is so that we can deal with all customer requests within a reasonable time. Once we have identified the documents you have requested, we will send you an estimate of the cost of producing copies. Please do not send payment in advance of receiving an estimated cost from us.
Regards
Jacky
