Hollin(g)sworth, Ontario

Post by nelmit » Tue Aug 24, 2010 10:45 pm

Trying to find this family on a census record is driving me crazy!!!!

George Hollin(g)sworth (b c1881 but cannot find a birth record) married Garnet Pearl Goslin (b 1890) in 1907 at Essex, Ontario. I've managed to find Garnet's parents marriage ok but trying to trace George and his ancestors has me going round in circles.

On their marriage entry he gives his parents as Albert Hollin(g)sworth and Fannie Lawson. I can see children born to Albert Hollinsworth and Johanna Lawson (and varients) at Colchester and I'm pretty sure this is the right couple..............but I cannot find them on a census.

I should also be able to find George and Garnet in 1911 but no luck!

From searches at the LDS Beta site I believe these could be George's siblings born at Essex, Ontario but not 100%

John born 1886
Arthur born 1887
Sarah Elizabeth born 1889
Albert born 1902 died 1903

I'm hoping somebody with a fresh eye can find what I can't.

Regards,
Annette

Hi Annette,

I'm not having much luck either, but there is a Garnet George Hollingsworth in Tasmania on the Australian Electoral Rolls for 1936, 1937, and 1943. Maybe your family moved before the 1911 census in Canada?

Many thanks Carol.

Thanks to your inspiration I searched for Holl* and this must be them in 1891 exactly where I want them - no wonder we couldn't find them!!

Albert Hollenworth 34
Jeaniah Hollenworth 39
William Hollmareth 15
Gorge Hollmareth 8
John Hollmareth 6
Arther Hollmareth 4
Sarah Hollmareth 2

Further down the page is James age 61 - the one you found in 1901 with the children.

I now wonder if this is George's birth -

Name: Thomas George Hollingworth
Date of Birth: 22 Jan 1883
Gender: Male
Birth County: Essex
Father's Name: Albert James Hollingworth
Mother's Name: Johanna Hollingworth

When George died his name was given as George T Hollingsworth.

Off to search some more.

Thanks again. :D

Hi Annette,

Good, you found them! I was wondering on the 1901 census if James CA Hollinworth wasn't in fact the father of Albert making Sarah and Arthur his son James' niece and nephew on that census even though James Sr. is given as the head of the family, but didn't have time to check it.

Also, have you checked the family trees on Ancestry? There are two or three which claim a Garnet Goslin married to a George Thomas Hollingsworth and place the couple in the USA in my home state of Michigan. They are showing a number of living Hollingsworth's and one tree shows Garnet as being born in the USA with Canadian parents. Haven't had time to look closely at these yet either.

This might be one of George's brothers:

Ontario, Canada Births, 1869-1911 Ontario, Canada Births, 1869-1911
Name: William Hallenworth Hallensworth
Date of Birth: 15 Jan 1881
Gender: Male
Birth County: Essex
Father's Name: Albert Hallensworth
Mother's Name: Jemina Lawson
Archives of Ontario Microfilm: MS929_48

He might also be on the 1911 census as Will Hollingsworth living with his mother's brother James Lawson who is transcribed as James Towson, Ontario, Essex North, Maidstone.

I'm having no luck finding any of the Hollingsworths from the family trees on any of the US Federal Census records for the State of Michigan so if they ended up there it was after 1930 or this is another family mixed in with the one that you are searching.

Hi Carol,

Yes I wondered about James senior being Albert's father too.

I hadn't seen the trees at Ancestry, till you pointed them out, but one I looked at certainly has the correct parents for Garnet.

I'm working between the library edition of Ancestry (that doesn't show family trees) and my own UK sub so your input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot,
Annette

Annette,

One more thing for you to check out:

Go to FamilySearch pilot, Search Goslin, Michigan, United States--leave everything else blank.

Edit: I just removed some names and numbers to a pm! Caught it myself this time!
