I am seeking the obituary of Hector (if it exists) who died in April 1961 in Wynburg, Western Cape Province, South Africa. He collapsed and died in church whilst presenting the evening service. I have a copy of his death record which is online and other bits and pieces.
Hector was born in Surrey, England in 1907 but was brought up in the Western Isles of Scotland from about 5 years old. He became a minister and spent some time on the island of Islay, Argyllshire, Scotland. During WW2 he was chaplain to the Cameron Highlanders and ended up being captured in Tobruk, Libya North Africa.

Stornoway Gazette & West Coast Advertiser of 30th May 1961: “It was with regret that the news of the sudden death of Rev Hector Macdonald, Capetown, South Africa was received in Benbecula on Monday. Mr Macdonald who had been in Africa for a long number of years collapsed whilst taking the service and died immediately. He was a son of the late Mr Norman Macdonald and Mrs Macdonald, Loch-na-Faolin, Grimninish Gate, Benbecula and was in his 54th year. Hector was very popular both in his native island and elsewhere, especially where he ministered. He was in Islay for 3 years and it was while he was there that his only son died. He is survived by his wife and one daughter who is a doctor in Capetown. He is also survived by his mother, two sisters and four brothers. Mr Macdonald who was a forces padre was taken prisoner in Tobruk and spent 3 years as a P.O.W. in Italy. His relatives are assured of the sympathy of the whole community at this sad time.”

Jings, Crivvens, Help ma Boab - I did not expect to get such a quick and very useful reply. You have made my day Elwyn and possibly my year.
