hi alistair,

there is a church street in Troon, which was in the Dundonald area at that time

worth investigating

Troon is only a couple of miles away from Dundonald village ,

so if you need any help it would be nae bother

Hi Ray,

Many thanks for your comments and offer. I have recently had a reply from Fullarton Church and after looking at their records they can find nothing but suggest that it may be worth enquiring at North Ayrshire Council, Funeral Records Department in Kilwinning.

When Dundonald Church emailed me to tell me that there had never been a Church Street in Dundonald, they suggested that Jeanie may have been buried at Irvine Old Church or Shewalton Cemetery.

Your mention of Troon - I have an entry in the 1887 Ayrshire Directory in Irvine for Robert Allan, Jean's husband stating "School Board Irvine, Robert Allan, officer, Bank Street", so it may well be that it's Irvine and not Troon.

I might try contacting North Ayrshire initially to see if they can help and hope that it can be done by phone or email.

been to Dundonald a few years ago.. nice wee place where they were having a mayday parade with pipers and weans all dressed up , and id gone into the churchyard to try and find a gravestone for an online friend.. a man from the church came out and invited us into look at the records book but I hadnt my glasses and declined, he was so helpful too.. there are lots of old graves in the churchyard and Im sure if you contacted the church he might look up records for you... I have photos somewhere i must look through to see some of the stones.. and names...
