Cor Blimey!
I once read In New Scientist, that everybody in the whole world is known to each other via just seven people. It must be true.
I should have said in the first place that i couldn't be sure of the church but that the officiating cleryman at the funeral of Rev'd George Morris's brother, James, was The Rev'd R Alexander of the United Free Church, Queen Anne St, Dunfermline. This doesn't mean much in itself but i should have assumed that this church represented the family following in Carnock/Cairneyhill.
In any event this point is now academic as DWW has done all the work for me.......once again. Thank's Davie.
I have tried the telephone number you gave me but it's a wrong number. I'll try another route when i get back. I must also take some of the medicine i recommended to Darlene and do the newspaper search as well Davie Just like you said
Are you following this Darlene?
Many thank's to all

I did a double take when I saw the telephone number, and just assumed that he lived in a different exchange area, which, let's be honest, is very doubtful..........

The Dalry STD code is, of course, 01294, but that doesn't really help as there should then be 6 digits, not 4 ......... ........... Have a go with 01294 832363 and see who answers !! - I have reason to believe that the original 4 figure central Dalry numbers were converted to 6 digits some years ago by the addition of the 83.

The full time librarian at the Watt library has been off on extended compassionate leave for months now and won't be back in the near furture. Other staff are rotating to keep the place open but many are unfamiliar with the vast amount of resources which is why there has been a delay.

Generally the Watt is very helpful and quick to reply. The previous full timer dealt with over 10,000 requests per year and Betty (who's off) was handling as many. So if the part timers are a bit slow please be patient.

I'm working with Sarah just now to get the Greenock (and area) Newspapers' indexes online (I'll not do an SP and promise a date but it is happening). Thereafter perhaps the Census indexes and the Trade Directories.
Searching for Keogh, Kelly, Fitzgerald, Riddell, Stewart, Wilson, McQuilkin, Lynch, Boyle, Cairney, Ross, King, McIlravey, McCurdy, Drennan and Woods (to name but a few).

Also looking for any information on Rathlin Island, County Antrim, Ireland.

Malcom,
Sarah is a very kind lady it seems.
That is wonderful about the indexes and such.

Hi Malcolm,
Yes I am far away here in the US, but through the magic of the internet, and kind people the task was accomplished. Also with the direction of kind people also.
Many thanks again,
Darlene

I spoke to The Rev'd Martin Thompson today at Dalry Trinity using the information and telephone number you gave me. He was very interested and helpful with my enquiries.
On becoming Minister he acquired a library and while we were talking he quoted a couple of items concerning George Morris from literature that just seemed to come to hand. He has taken my details and promises to forward some material in due course.
This is good progress and i did it all without lifting my bottom from this chair. Now i come to think about it, i didn't do anything at all. You did it.
Thank you for all your help and i will let you know about further developments.
Many Regards

Fasti Ecclesiae Scoticanae

Fasti Ecclesiae Scoticanae

Reading between the lines i gather that the above title covers Ministers of the Established Church of Scotland. Does anybody know please, what is the equivelant title for Ministers who belonged to the United Presbyterian Church?

Malcolm

"History of the Congregations of the United Presbyterian Church from 1733 - 1900", 1904, David M Small.

"Annals and Statistics of the United Presbyterian Church," 1873, by William McKelvie, may be too early to record your ancestor !
