On having another squint at the gravestone, I'm wondering if it's possibly January rather than June . . . . .

Hi Anne,

George's death is difficult to make out. I have tried messing around with the image in Photo Editor, and am still unsure, but would favour Jan or Jany as an abbreviation of January.

All the best,

I too messed around with Irfanview and wondered if the date was the 6th or 8th June.

Thanks for the input guys.

I've decided to go back the first morning it's sunny - and hopefully the sun's angle will make things a bit clearer.

Russell, the problem is, if he died in June, where was he on the Cencus?

I must apologise at this stage to Pandabean/Andy, I seem to have completely taken over his thread - what started off as a simple enquiry from him has started me off on yet another mission!!!!

Still, at the end of the day, it might help somewhere along the line!

Anne

All Bets off!

Wee George died in January - not June as I had previously thought - so that'll be why he's not on the Cencus - dohhhh!

Anne.

Updated photo will be uploaded when approved (if I've managed to do it right!)

Sorry for the very late reply, I have just been away for 5 weeks to the Isle of Skye doing a Uni project and I havent had a chance to access the internet.

But this George Rutherford is interesting, I do have George Rutherford born in 1879 but he was born in Cumbernauld. That is the only George I have.
