MI Look Up - Aberdeen.....

Post by Ted » Fri Nov 04, 2005 6:06 pm

Hi Everyone

Wonder if anyone can give me some advice. I have William Allan's death aged 55 in Oyne, Aberdeenshire in 1951. I now know he is buried in St Peter's Churchyard, King Street, Aberdeen - I suspect that he will be interred in the same grave as other family members from the area. Can anyone suggest how I can get information regarding the inscriptions on his headstone - which may well help me to demolish some of my 'brick walls'. I know that writing snail mail to City of Aberdeen Council will eventually bring a result but hopefully there may be a quicker way.

Here's hoping & thanks lots

Ted

If you have the head stone number ect why not try and phone the actual graveyard or church ? If you dont have that like i didnt but have dates - my local lot of grave diggers (in two different cemeteries) are only too happy to delve into their fab old books in thier rusty old filing cabinets  and have really gone out of their way to help me and found very old unmarked graves that i never would have found :D If they are as helpful as mine they will be more than happy to go have a look for you :?:

Hi Ted

I'm n London just now but if you are still stuck in a while drop me a line and I'll just go and look once I'm home. I'll have to do it at a weekend because the evenings are too dark now to go after work.

Hi Anne

Thanks for keeping me in mind - however now no need - following sound advice from you guid folk I contacted the Council at Aberdeen & got the relevant details. I was lucky enough to get another volunteer who took some photos for me just yesterday. Imagine my deep joy when I not only found that my G Grandmother was also in the same lair but also found that they had another child who is buried there and died at only 9 months of age in 1898. I had no previous knowledge of that child.

Thanks lots for your kind offer
