Where is Kilbride Burying Grounds?

Post by sheilajim » Fri Aug 11, 2006 1:48 am

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone know where Kilbride Burying Grounds are?
I have one of those 1855 Death Certs for a GGGrandmother. She was only about 40, when she died. On the Death Cert under Burial Place, it looks like Kilbride Burying Grounds. I can't quite make out the undertaker's name.

I am sure that she had little money. She was a widow and was survived by two sons, the oldest of which was 20. Would she have been put in a common grave?

Thanks

Sheila

Hi Sheila
I quick google reveals there are several Kilbrides - can you tell us in which district the death occurred?

Best wishes

Hi Leslie

I thought that I had put her place of death in.
She died in Renfrewshire, parish of Cathcart. She was born on the Isle of Mull.

I also did an online search, and was getting a place in Ireland! As far as I know she didn't have an Irish connection.

Regards

Sheila

Hmmm.. not sure. Nothing so far is jumping out at me!

These are in Lanarkshire:
East Kilbride East Kilbride Cemetery, Mavor Avenue
East Kilbride East Kilbride Old Parish Churchyard (Closed), Montgomery Street
East Kilbride Phillpshill Cemetery, Westerfield Road

West Kilbride is in Ayrshire

There is also a Kilbride (maybe even more than one??) in Argyll....

It is not a part of Scotland that I'm familiar with so I'd just have to google along with you - I'm sure there will be someone on the board who knows this area & will be able to give you more help than I can

Best wishes

Hi Sheila

When Cathcart was a part of Renfrewshire it stretched out over open fields and meadows as far as what is now East Kilbride. Cathcart is now a built up part of Glasgow. East Kilbride is now a new town sprawling all over a wide area but it used to be a small village.

I think that it is the most likely place to look although I have no detailed knowledge of the area.
there is a West Kilbride but it is miles away in Ayrshire.
