I read the name in question as Rabacca, presumably a mis-spelling of Rebecca. The enumerator left a lot of his letter a's open at the top.

As for the birthplace. I think it says Cumernauld (with the b missing). Assuming it should be Cumbernauld, then either the county is wrong (should be Dunbartonshire) or it was very accurate and she was born in the small portion of Cumbernauld (church) parish at Castlecary that was within Falkirk (civil) parish, and thus within Stirlingshire.

All the best,

AndrewP

Thanks, Jean.
Well, you can't fault Ancestry for this one! It looks exactly like Rubacca to me  But the last name looks like Aithen. Makes one wonder how they pronounced it 8) I think whoever wrote it down wasn't clear what her name was, anyway... And I do think Jack found the right census. I hope he did well on his crossword, while we were hashing this out   That must be what keeps his mind so sharp :!:
Regards,
Sarah

Hmmm....the prevoius reference to Robert Aitken and Marjory Betts makes me wonder now if it must be another couple?????

AITKEN, William Christening
Gender: Male
Birth Date: 19 Apr 1830
Christening Date: 9 May 1830 Recorded in: Falkirk, Stirlingshire, Scotland
Father: Robert AITKEN
Mother: Marjory BETTS
Source: FHL Film 1041945 Dates: 1830 - 1832

Unless Elis was really born much earlier......

A most confusing family if I do say so!! :?

Best wishes
Jean

Good heavens! So much information!!!!!!!!

To Sarah,Jean,Jack and Andrew - what can I say to you all but THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for the time and effort you have put into this.

It will take me a while to get my head around all the names and dates but from what I can see after quickly reading through this is:
I had discounted the clergyman and his family as being a direct relative. I will keep an eye on him though because he seems to be a very interesting man. :D
I agree with the entry for Robina in 1851 as mentioned by Jack and Jean. It looks good to me :D
From Robina's death certificate it says that she was born in May 1828 so even though it is a submitted entry ROBINA AIKEN - Christening: 29 MAY 1828 Saint Ninians, Stirling [LDS Sub] fits the bill nicely.:D

Though no sign of Robina was found in 1841 I'm sure she's lurking there somewhere and one day will magically appear.

Once again, to you brilliant people - Thank you for your time, your knowledge but most of all your kindness. It is appreciated very much.
