Children of James Hutchison and Elizabeth Crawford

Post by innjess » Mon May 26, 2008 5:19 am

Firstly, let me say that I am new to Genealogy, so please bear with me if I seem naive and ignorant about some of the topics and searches! (I am learning - slowly!)
Secondly, the last two postings (for which, many thanks) seem to vary between LDS and Scotlands People. The 10 children listed in LDS contain two names, Mary born 9/11/1776 and George christened 30/3/1777. These do not appear in Scotland's People, but, contrariwise, Scotland's People does have a second James born/christened 18/04/1783.
Finally, do I take it that yet another James born/christened 20/12/1778, but whose mother is stated to be Elizabeth Todd (from Midlothian) is a "rogue" entry?
Thanks yet again.

Hi Innes,

It does happen occasionaly that the extracts appearing on the IGI won't correspond with what you find on SP and vice versa...possibly a mistranscription or variation in spelling. If you are reasonably close to an LDS Family History Center it might be a good idea to have them order in the film for you to look at...I understand it only costs a minimal amount.

The extracts that appear online IGI are as follows:

James Hutchison married Elizabeth Crawford, Jan. 14, 1771
Children:
John - 1772
Ann - 1774
Mary - 1776
George - 1777
Elizabeth - 1778
Janet - 1781
Jean - 1787
Agnes - 1791
James - 1792

That's nine children, all extracts taken from the Church of Scotland records. There is no extract that I can see for a Robert born 1785...this is a submission and needs to be verified by finding the actual record....did you find an extract on SP for Robert?

I would say that this James is born to a different couple...you have an Elizabeth born 1778 to James and Elizabeth Crawfurd.

Regards,
Anne H

Hello Innes:

We all learn slowly in this hobby, simply because there are so many things to learn along the way :)
The 10 children listed in LDS contain two names, Mary born 9/11/1776 and George christened 30/3/1777. These do not appear in Scotland's People
A good example of things to check, and how these things happen, and that as soon as you explain something, you'll end up being wrong.

Mary shows up on SP as Hutcheson - Father James, Mother Elizabeth, christened 14 Nov 1776

George shows up on SP with Father James, Mother Betty

Select a corrected entry form from the list at http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/conte ... spx?r=1202 to notify SP so they can amend/correct their indexes to include the variances on Mary and George.
