Hi Kim,

What particular Parish Records are you searching in?

It might be the case that SKS might live locally to whatever Archives etc., these records are kept and with a bit of luck, have a wee look for you.

At the moment, it looks to me as though it's possibly "son natural", meaning wee Robert was indeed illegitimate.

The wording of a full entry would be something along these lines ......

(Date) Brown, John, son lawful to James Brown, Farmer, Stirling and his spouse Margaret Black. (Then sometimes, Baptized by me, the Minister's name and a baptism date and on the odd occasion, the place of Baptism)

OPR Birth Record

Post by kimmac61 » Fri Jan 19, 2007 12:25 am

Hi Anne

The OPR record is a birth in Abbey Paisley, Renfrew. Date 15 August 1820 for a Robert Mc Nair parents James Mc Nair and Catherine Barclay. Numbers 559/00 0006.

After looking a great deal i cannot find a marriage for Roberts' parents at Scotlands People. Plus the entry leaves me to believe that indeed he might well have been illegitimate.

If anyone was local and could have a look for me it would be GREATLY appreciated !!!

Thanks
Kim

Female: D(Daughter)? L(Lawful/ Legal) Of (Parents forenames/surnames)

The entry i am interested in is the only one with
N (Natural)? S(Son)? of (Parents forenames/surnames)

The Kirk Sessions in this case might be the way to go.

Thanks
Kim
It would really help if I'd read your post properly!

Yes, 99.99% certain that "N.S." means Natural Son.
