OPR baptisms

Post by ann baker » Mon Sep 03, 2007 4:04 am

Hi all

Why is it that when you go into Scotland's People to search for OPR baptisms you get parents names but they mostly are not on the actual image you download ?

Thanks

Ann

Hi Ann and Welcome to TalkingScot :)

I can't think why the parents names wouldn't be on your images since they are on every OPR Baptism I've ever downloaded. The image usually shows the following information or something similar:

Feby 9th
John Russell & Margaret Marshall, Fannyside Mills had a child born & baptized the 20th of February, called William.

On the other hand, the OPR marriage/banns usually only gives the couples names and unfortunately, rarely gives the parents names.

Regards,
Anne H

Hi Ann
..and welcome to Talking Scot :D

I've not seen an OPR birth where no parent is mentioned. Even on the briefest examples either the father or mother has been mentioned. Can you give us an example please?
If you can upload a page to the gallery that would be great; instructions are here.

- if not, if you can maybe give us the date, name(s) and place with the GROS reference, (you can copy & paste this bit from the SP web site ) then someone can have a look and see if we can help answer your question. e.g.
22 Apr 1837 SMITH JOHN, JAMES SMITH/MARY BROWN FR4064 M DUNFERMLINE 424/00 011

Best wishes
