Since he was born in Ireland perhaps he came here without his parents.

I have found George Cowan's death in 1915 aged 77,it has his father as Thomas Cowan (deceased) and ------ Cowan (deceased) for his mother.I found a Thomas Cowan's death in 1881 at the same address (Shaws Mills)as George had on his marraige certificate. It says Thomas is aged 54 but think this is a misprint. It also has that he was married to Janet Marshall and not Mary MCcleish.Thomas Cowan and Janet Marshall married in 1819 so aged 54 on his death certificate is definitely wrong. Why is geneaology so hard?

I was wondering if maybe Thomas Cowan had not been married to Mary McCleish so making George illegitemate as i cant even find George's birth anywhere in Ireland. The George that is at Shaw Mills in 1881 says that hes the nephew of Mrs Thomas Cowan but the George i have would have been around 41 years old as he was 30 when he married in 1870.Thanks again for your help you have been so kind.
